Capilano Community participates in Neighbourhood Watch. The Edmonton Neighbourhood Watch Program Society is a not-for-profit, charitable volunteer passive crime prevention organization.Their mission is to improve the quality of life within all Edmonton communities by working to encourage awareness and participation. Doing little things, like taking notice of your surroundings and being aware of the changes that take place just outside your front window can make a big difference.
Their main objective is to have as many residents as possible actively participating in their neighbourhood so that any threats to the area will be reported to the police, thus avoiding the occurrence of a crime. They encourage residents to watch out for each other to reduce crime in the city and to act as the eyes and ears of their community. If you do see something, do not put yourself at risk in any way — just make that call and let someone know what you saw. Simple steps deter crime and demonstrate that we care about what happens in our neighbourhoods. Minimal actions on your part can un-invite criminals to your home and yard. Be aware, stay aware and involve yourself in the ‘watch’.
