Mark your calendars: Beer Tasting May 15
Back by popular demand, Capilano is pleased to bring another beer tasting event in May. Tickets and details available soon!
To the Families of Capilano,
2009 was a life changing year for our family and we would like to extend our HEARTFELT gratitude to the community of Capilano for the support you provided us. As we were coming to terms with my diagnosis of Breast Cancer and all the treatments needed to fight it, a community came together and helped us walk through it. Within days we were surrounded by home cooked meals, flowers, endless offers to help and card's filled with hope and encouragement. Thank you to everyone who donated towards a weekly housekeeper. That was such a luxury and greatly appreciated.
I need to send out a special thank you to Jackie Werstiuk. There are no words to express how grateful I am for your unwavering friendship. You walked through it with me and I thank you for that.
Allow me to voice again how unique Capilano is and I feel blessed to be surrounded by so many caring people.
Sincerely,
Kriss and Jeff Eisenkrein and family
Community Volunteer - Is it in you?
Most volunteer organizations struggle to attract and retain the right talent to offer the services the organization strives to provide. Your local community league is no different. Capilano Community League continues to offer its programs and events thanks to a small number of individuals and families. In order to maintain and expand services, help is needed! There are current needs not being met, and noted improvements where a broader volunteer base would enhance our community. New energy, new ideas are needed. I would like to challenge community minded people to come forward and get involved. Examples include auditors, casino coordinator, setup and cleanup crews for events, and web site content administrator. Our facilities committee is always looking for new members willing to help with projects related to hall operations, renovations and improvements. There are many demographic groups where we could improve and extend the programs offered. Good examples are seniors and teens. Does anyone have ideas they would like realized? Is there someone out there to revitalize the hugely popular movie nights? People volunteer for many reasons: to meet new people and make friends, learn new skills, it makes you feel needed, and provides an opportunity to give back. At the local league level, volunteerism strengthens the community and makes the neighbourhood a better, safer place to live. A dream would be that everyone who uses the community league services should not only buy a membership, but volunteer to get an appreciation for the effort and commitment required to operate. Even the smallest exposure can be an eye opener and, who knows, lead to more active involvement. Community volunteer has a nice ring to it. Are you one? To get involved contact anyone of the executive listed in the directory, or check the contacts on our website www.capilano.info. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:30 pm at the hall. Everyone is welcome.
TAI CHI Classes Begin FEB 22!
Tai Chi teaches us a way to slow down, let our energy flow, boost our circulation, and quiet our ever busy minds. Recapture a sense of peacefulness and grace, tone the body, and recharge your batteries. Research shows Tai Chi to be one of the best exercises for balance and coordination, and is often recommended for back and circulatory problems. Called the "effort of no effort", the "art of non-striving", Tai Chi practice is like a refreshing walk in the park! This 8 class series will focus on warm-ups for flexibility and circulation, and teach simple but effective, easy to remember Tai Chi movements (including Tai Chi Chih).
