The Capilano Community League casino was held January 23-24 at Baccarat Casino in Edmonton. This is a very important source of revenue for the league, with the proceeds used for programs, facility upkeep, and capital projects.
It takes a full community effort to staff the positions required over the two days. We received great response from various demographics including community members young and old, Capilano Tennis Club, and our friends at Suzuki school. The board would like to recognize the volunteers who completed shifts. They are: Grant J, Alf R, Debbie R, Tracy Z, Curtis S, John H, Jean H, Harry E, Kevin F, Kris E, Jackie W, Jason G, Derek S, Brent L, Mathew T, Sheila T, Corrine F, Dionne M, Shelley S, Bill B, Jill S, Simone T, Eugene B, Jim H, Rose O, Al P, Jodi D, Jenn F, Cindy D, Michelle W, Jeff R, Stu C, Terry P, Allan Y, Orysia O, Allan M, Dave S, Patti M.
As a Capilano community resident you have a unique opportunity to make a significant difference to those who live in your community. Since 1958 the Capilano Community League has played a key role in providing recreational and social facilities and programming to the residents of this area. Led by a core of volunteers willing to dedicate their time to improve the quality of life in our community, the Capilano Community League has a rich and rewarding history of service to its residents. Fundraising through memberships, bingos and eventually casinos, the community league has been able to deliver facilities and programming that otherwise would not be available locally. This has been done largely through the dedication and efforts of a small group of community league volunteers. Over the years the efforts of people like Maurice Pourier, Al Park, Bob Breakenridge, Gregg Meropoulis, and Bill Burtnik, supported by a committed executive and a core of committee workers and volunteers, have made a difference in their community.
