Capilano Community Playground – Tube Slide Update

Last fall, the City of Edmonton closed our great “tube slide down the hill” as it developed a large crack on the underside of the tube, posing major safety risks to children.  The slide has now been assessed by the City and due to the fact that this slide no longer meets current safety standards and the Capilano Community has undertaken a redevelopment project to replace our aging playground, it will remain closed permanently.

HOW CAN YOU HELP our Community Park Redevelopment?

--JOIN THE COMMITTEE:  We are always looking for fresh faces and fresh ideas to help out on the Capilano Community Park Redevelopment Committee.

--DONATE:  All donations over $20 receive a tax deductible receipt from the City.  We have been awarded $375,000 in matching funds from the City.  This means your donation will also be matched by the City.  Thus far we have $154,000 from Capilano Community League, SuzukiSchool, and private donations.  We need $221,000 more to match the City funds!

--EMPLOYER DONATIONS:  Many employers are willing to make charitable donations through their employees.  Ask your employer if they can make a donation to our park/playground project.

--PROVIDE THE COMMITTEE WITH SPONSOR LEADS: We are working to identify leads for Donors (Corporate and other).  If you have some ideas please contact a Committee member to pass it on.

--SPREAD THE WORD! Talk about the park/playground redevelopment with your community friends and contacts.  Perhaps those discussions will lead to support opportunities.

--GET EXCITED! This redevelopment will shape a community focus area for all ages, for the next 20 years!  If we are able to reach our fundraising goal, the project will be fully realized with no key items excluded from the redevelopment plan.

HUGE Thank you Park Supporters!

THANK YOU to our early donors who have already made generous personal contributions to this project as part of the Donor Recognition Program:

Silver donors: Roasa Family/Friends, Samuel Niu, Ralph Johnston, Stuart Cunningham, Monica Lambert

Bronze donor: Scott Milligan, Cheryl Carson/Mike Ross, Sharon Boechler

The PENNIES FOR PLAYGROUND campaign was a great success.  Total raised in support of the playground was $1,506.86!  Thanks to all who contributed their pennies and coins and thanks to Suzuki School for running this fundraiser.
