Community Fun Day Thank You!

At the Greater Hardisty Community Fun Day on Saturday September 24 at Gold Bar Community, the weather cooperated and hundreds of residents from Capilano, Gold Bar, Forest Terrace Heights and Fulton Place enjoyed the festivities.

Thank you to Rhonda and Heather for their immense efforts in pulling together yet another wonderful Community League Day event – it wouldn’t happen without you and all the volunteers who helped!

A big THANKS to Celanese, Enbridge, EPCOR, Imperial, Strathcona Industrial Association and Andy Verhagen of Re/max for funding the wonderful day.

Thank you Casino Volunteers!

A BIG thank you to all those who volunteered for the Capilano Community League casino on August 26 and 27, 2016.  Casinos are a key revenue source and a successful casino, supported by dedicated volunteers, ensures a sound financial future for the league.

Hardisty Outdoor Soccer – thank you Volunteers!

Hardisty Soccer just completed the 2016 outdoor season with 18 teams, giving the youth in our communities a great season.  Many thanks to all the coaches and parent volunteers without whom community soccer would not exist.

Registration for the 2017 outdoor season will commence in February—details will follow in this publication.

Champions Again!

The Capilano-Hardisty U16 Girls team coached by Brenda Erlam, Ace Yaggey, and Warren Stein capped off another successful season with a GOLD medal win in the Inter Cities Championship in Calgary over the July 23–24 weekend.

Welcome Back!

Suzuki Charter School is delighted to be welcoming back our staff, students and parents for the 2016/2017 school year.  Classes resume on Thursday September 1, 2016.

Please see below for a few traffic flow and parking tips as we all work together to keep our children safe in Capilano community:

–Follow all City of Edmonton signage to ensure you are following city traffic and parking by-laws.  Be especially aware of any NO STOPPING and Disabled parking areas.

–Slow down!  Remember school zones are in effect. 30 KM/H in designated school zones from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on all school days.

–Follow the school traffic flow and parking plan to alleviate congestion and give everyone safe access to drop off zones.  This plan can be found on our website at www.suzukischool.ca.

–Utilize the designated drop-off zones at the front (54 Street) and back (Capilano Street) for quick drop-off.  These are NO PARKING zones from 7:30 – 8:30 am.

–Ensure you are not blocking any driveways or alleyways when parking.

–Watch for and follow directions from our AMA Safety Patrollers who will monitor and control the crosswalk at the front of the school.

By working together and following best practices, we can keep our staff, students, parents and neighbours safe and build our community.

Congratulations Konnor Kimball!

CONGRATULATIONS to Capilano resident and Hardisty School Grade 7 student Konnor Kimball for competing in the 2016 Alberta Winter Games.

Konnor is a member of the Sunridge Ski Team and qualified for Zone 6 (Edmonton) for the Alberta Winter Games.  The Games were held From Feb. 13-16, 2016 in Medicine Hat, AB. The Alpine events were at the Hidden Valley Ski Resort in Cypress Hills.  Konnor qualified to compete in the Slalom, Giant Slalom and the Dual Slalom.

Sunridge Ski Team President Chris McEwen commented, “After a delayed start to the season with the weather, the racers have been training hard.  Just qualifying for the Alberta Winter Games is a big accomplishment in ski racing.”

At the Games, Konnor had a very respectable 8th and 6th place finishes in the Slalom event. The next day in the Giant Slalom he crashed in his first run, and in the second placed 20th in a field of the top 40 U14 alpine ski racers in Alberta.  On the final day of the winter games Konnor and his Zone 6 team mates won the Bronze Medal in the Dual Slalom team event.

Of the games Konnor says that, “It was an amazing experience meeting all the athletes from the other sports and I was glad that I was able to make it to the Alberta Winter Games.  It is something that I will remember for the rest of my life.”

We wish Konnor good luck in the rest of his races this season!

Silent Auction – Donor Correction

The December issue of the Southeast Voice incorrectly listed the Government of Alberta as a silent auction donor for the Capilano Community Park Redevelopment. Instead, the donor list should have indicated MLA Marlin Schmidt, Edmonton-Gold Bar Constituency Office as the silent auction donor.

EPCOR’s Community Liaison Committee

We are looking for a member of the Capilano community to join our Community Liaison Committee (CLC).  The CLC meets to discuss issues, programs and projects relating to the Gold Bar Wastewater Treatment Plant and helps EPCOR better understand community priorities related to wastewater service delivery.  The time commitment is two evenings per year.

If you are interested in participating in the CLC, please contact Lindsay at lhumber@epcor.com or (780) 412-3390.
